VIRTUALNational Book Festival

CASE STUDY

The Library of Congress again selected our team at Decibel Event Management to produce and execute the 20th annual National Book Festival. The events team at the Library of Congress made the decision to host the 2020 National Book Festival in an online and virtual environment in the wake of the Covid pandemic.

With this, the Decibel Team is proud to have been selected as the event operations and logistics partner each year since 2009, a 12-year streak. As you will see from our experience, we have had the opportunity to assist the Library on their productions indoors, outdoors on the National Mall, and now broadcast to a global virtual audience.

Our team at Decibel was tasked with concepting, developing and managing the transition of this event that sees an audience of over 200,000 people and bringing it online. This year’s event featured more than 120 authors, presenting on 12 distinct virtual festival stages, as well as 95+ digital exhibit booths. Not to mention a real-time connection to the online bookseller.

Decibel was able to accomplish this virtual conference build on an absolutely insane timeline. From selection to launch, our team had just shy of 80 days to complete the entire effort. This included over 85 separate cloud-studio recordings of each author presentation, the post-production editing of over 150 discreet presentations hosted on platform as Videos-on-Demand (VOD), as well as working with over 95 separate sponsor exhibit booths and onboarding 300+ staff. In addition, we worked with our partners to fully develop and build the stand-alone platform that hosted all of the 65+ Live Q&A Sessions for the weekend of the event.
